A deliberate format

Robin: You came back?
Alex: I forgot my umbrella.
  And something I meant to tell you.
Robin: Then let us start there.

This is an original fictional example. Every new speech starts with a speaker label and a colon. The first colon separates the name from the text; later colons belong to the dialogue. A tab or at least two leading spaces makes a continuation of the preceding speech. Blank lines separate entries and are ignored.

Unlabeled text, empty speeches and continuations before the first speaker are rejected. Stage directions are not guessed or extracted from a screenplay. Include intended directions within a labeled speech or edit the scene afterward. This does not import PDFs, images or formatted screenplay files.

Choose your acting role

Enter the role label you will rehearse. Matching ignores letter case and surrounding spaces. Repeated speaker labels with different capitalization become one role, keeping the first spelling. Review carefully when distinct characters have similar names.

Inspect the whole scene

The preview shows all roles and every dialogue line, including your own. Only rehearsal hides your selected role’s lines. Nothing is sent or uploaded. New difficulty marks start off; mark challenging lines during rehearsal or editing.

Keep existing work

Apply or cancel current scene edits before importing. Adding creates a new scene with new identifiers and leaves existing scenes in place. A source, title, role or notebook change invalidates the previous preview. Cancelling addition keeps the notebook unchanged.

Importing changes memory only. Save the notebook or download its private backup afterward. The imported scene uses the same notebook format as manually entered scenes.

Limits

One MB of UTF-8 dialogue text, up to 30 roles and 500 speeches in a scene. A continued speech counts as one line and must fit within 10,000 UTF-8 bytes; role names fit within 100 bytes and scene titles within 200 bytes. The notebook holds up to 50 scenes within its 10 MB backup limit. Invalid or oversized candidates are rejected before existing scenes change.
